Arts on Douglas, part of ACA, is now accepting submissions to Small Things Considered, the gallery's annual year-end exhibit of works 10 inches by 10 inches or smaller. Florida artists working in all media, excluding video/sound and installation art, may apply. Submit proposals via submittable.com. There is no entry fee. Submission deadline is midnight, Sunday, Oct. 23. Exhibit dates are Dec. 3 to Jan. 10.

ACA Downtown at 123 Douglas St. has “Roses Are Not Always Red” on display in the Feature Gallery from Oct. 1 to 29. “Relics From Youth” by ceramicist Trent Berning is on view in the alt_space Gallery to Oct. 15.

University of Central Florida Flying Horse Editions: The Art of Research will be on display until Oct. 29 at the ACA Main Campus Pabst Visitor Center & Gallery, 1414 Art Center Ave. Free and open to everyone.

First Saturday at the Hub on Canal will be Oct. 1. A gallery opening reception will be from 4-7 p.m in The Founders Gallery for “More Than Words Can Say,” mixed media and prose by Johanna Riddle. Also, Ms. Riddle will offer an opportunity for exhibit viewers to select from provided written passages and create a "piece of art" they feel reflects that passage. The creations can be uploaded to a file Ms. Riddle will manage during the exhibit, which will be on display to Oct. 30. An artist's talk will be a 6 p.m.

Art Connections will meet from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Talk to the artists and learn about the process of creating art. Explore two floors of art in one historic building in the heart of the New Smyrna Beach Arts District.

RhythmWorks will perform live music from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. by outside The Hub and James Hall will perform from 5-7 p.m. in the Lobby.

Talk Art with Hub artist Judy Pickett will be from 1-2 p.m..

An Artist Discussion and Book Signing with Hub studio artist Frank Ferrante will be from 4:30 to 5 p.m. in the lobby and continue in his studio from 5 to 7 p.m. Mr. Ferrante will lead a discussion about his newly published book, “Inspired by Nature – Plein Air Painting and The Prismatic Palette.”

The Daytona Beach Choral Society will host a free vocal workshop for singers from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct.4, at Ormond Beach Presbyterian Church, 105 Amsden Road.

Talk and Walk: Tech Savvy will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, in the Ford Gallery. Zach Zacharias, senior curator of education and history, will lead the tour and talk about the history of gramophones, transistor radios and early computers.

Volusia County Chess Club 2022 Quick Chess Championship will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8. Volusia County’s best chess players will be duking it out to determine the area’s best quick chess player. The tournament will be a five match round robin. “Minor Masterpieces: Porcelain Painted Scenes from the Collection” will be on display to Dec. 4. The exhibit highlights miniature scenes, some of which were painted by highly-regarded painters, and shows the mostly forgotten technique, once considered essential for the well-dressed table.

Beaux Arts of Central Florida celebrates its 60th anniversary with 42 artists this year exhibiting their art in the juried show “Epiphany: Visions of Art.” The show will run until Nov. 27.

“Art as Alchemy,” an exhibit from Miami’s New World School of the Arts, will be on display until Oct. 16.

“Tech Savvy: Home Technology from 1890s to the 1990s” will be on display until Dec. 4.

“Key West: Southernmost USA” exhibit is on display. Explore the southernmost point of the continental United States.

Ormond Memorial Art Museum is hosting more than 100 pieces of the Colored Pencil Society of America’s 30th Annual International Exhibition at 78 E. Granada Blvd. Ormond Beach.

Robert Shetterly's “Americans Who Tell the Truth, Portraits of Activists” will be on display until Dec. 11, at Museum of Art-DeLand, 600 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand.

Mr. Shetterly, 75, an activist and self-taught artist, has been painting outspoken Americans for more than 20 years. More than 50 of his portraits will be featured.

Gateway Center for the Arts hosts pottery classes for adults from noon to 2 p.m. each Wednesday at 880 N. U.S. 17/92, DeBary.

Classes are for beginner and intermediate students. Each session is $50. Masks are required and class sizes are limited.

Open Studio is at 10 a.m. each Tuesday.

A Stained Glass Class with Frank Alderfer will meet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Wednesday, until Nov. 16. A lunch break will be from noon to 1 p.m. The pre-paid price is $199 for the nine-week session. An individual class is $40.

Volunteers are needed. Volunteers will be able to participate in events and shows for free, while also gaining credit for future classes and shows.
